Is It Possible to do Home Solar Panels Installation at Home?
As the cost of electricity rises and rises many of you will be wondering about solar panels installation. So was I. So I looked into how cheap, or expensive, it would be to make one at home.
Well, surprisingly, I found out that making a solar panel at home could be done for a fraction of the cost of buying a ready made system. And you by no means need to be a rocket scientist. With the right set of instructions and plans, a 15 year old kid could do it.
Here’s how I did it, made simple.
I got hold of some cheap solar cells. These are the basis of your solar panels installation. The most important part. There are several places you can get hold of second hand cells to cut down on cost.
Then I put them into a shallow box I’d constructed myself out of wood and clear plastic, and connected them together. This in essence was my solar panel. It wasn’t a particularly tricky job, but I did need a set of good clear instructions on how to wire and solder the cells and how to make the box.
Next I connected my box to a good deep cycle battery. Unfortunately a car battery isn’t deep cycle but I found one I could cannibalize from something else.
The next to last step was attaching a converter. You see, most electrical appliances run on AC electricity and the power I was going to harvest from the sun would be DC. Fortunately converters are relatively cheap items available from almost all hard ware stores.
The last step was finding a good spot so that my panel would receive the maximum of the sun’s rays every day. And that was it. I was done! And I was creating my own electricity which I was storing in my battery.
If you’d like to cut down on your electricity bill and create solar power for a fraction of the cost of buying a ready-made system, I highly recommend making your own solar panel. I can definitely state that building your own cheap solar panel is possible.
