Hydropower Research and Development Focusing in Turbine Efficiency

hydropower efficiency
Up to around 1980, hydropower research and development (R&D) efforts focused mainly on improving turbine efficiency, reducing cavitations, and increasing generation. Whereas older units had efficiency ratings as low as 60%, the new units have efficiency ratings of approximately 90%. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) also looked at new technologies for developing low-head, ultra low-head, and small hydropower projects. These technologies included the following: (more…)

Copy Machines Energy Consumption - How to use Photocopier Energy Saving Feature

Copy Machines Energy Consumption
The office copy machines (photocopier) is everywhere. Seven millions unit are in used in the United States and more than 1.5 million are sold each year. Anyone who has worked in an office has probably used at least once or perhaps spend hours making many copies. The copy machines are not cheap, not just the price. Office stencils related equipment is the fastest-growing use of electricity in commercial buildings in the U.S., according to the Department of Energy. The electricity consumed by office equipment companies will cost reaching two million dollar per year and copiers play an important role in this matter. (more…)

Solutions to Energy-Related Global Warming

Addressing global warming, however, is a highly complex and daunting endeavor. Many climate experts have urged the world to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere around 450 to 550 parts per million (ppm)—that is, no more than 450 to 550 units of greenhouse gases for every million units of air in the earth’s atmosphere. This approach, experts say, could keep average global temperatures at no more than 3.6° Fahrenheit (2° Celsius) above preindustrial levels, which could avoid some of the worst, irreversible consequences of climate change. Active Solar Hot Water Systems | Active Heating

Active Solar Hot Water Systems
Active solar hot water systems water are usable with air, liquid, vapor or liquid collector fluid or gas to liquid process. Hot water production with an air-heating collector’s distribution for heating is usually performed in the large space heating panel systems. The losses in the process of heat transfer are high. Air systems work not as well as units of the liquid to heat the water. Air systems are generally only capable of hot water 70 to 95F. (more…)

Climate Impacts on Energy Demand

climate changes energy
Energy is consumed by various segments of the economy, including households, commercial establishments, manufacturing enterprises, and electric power generators. Only a portion of total energy demand is sensitive to temperature changes. (more…)

Windmill Technology - A Move Towards Renewable Green Energy

<br />
Being energy self sufficient is the wave of the future. As the available resources shrink, and the demand for energy grows, power companies are finding it more and more difficult to meet the power demands of its customers. There is talk now by most of the major utilities that if consumption keeps up at the current pace then they will be forced to have rolling black outs in order for them to conserve energy and stave off having to build new facilities. Think of it! Being told that you will not have power for several hours in the day, every day of the week! (more…)

6 Simple Tips to Reduce Your Energy Usage

reduce energy usage
Nowadays, a lot more people are increasingly aware of the amount of energy they consumed everyday and what effect it was having on our planet. If you are one of these people and are looking for a way to help out with the environment and reduce energy usage, here are six simple steps to helping you cut back on the amount of energy you use.

1. Turn off all of the lights in your home that you are not using, and can you do with few lights? For the next month try to making a genuine commitment to stick to it and compare your current utility bill with next month’s (more…)

Does Homebuilt Wind Generator Really Works?

Would it not be great to be able to produce your own electricity supply at home? The idea of being independently powered up without relying on the utility company is not that far away from becoming a reality. Homeowners are already buying into the idea of using homebuilt wind generators to make their own electricity supply.

But do these homebuilt wind generators work? Homemade wind power systems are a smaller scale version of those gigantic turbines that provide electricity (more…)

Using Setback Heating/Cooling Thermostats to Control Conditioning Heating Units

setback-thermostat
If a space is occupied on a predictable schedule, you can use either timeclocks or setback thermostats to turn the conditioning units on and off. A setback thermostat is a heating thermostat/ cooling thermostat with an internal timeclock that changes the space temperature settings at different times.

A setback thermostat normally operates through the thermostat controller circuit of the conditioning heating units. (more…)
