Renewable energy generators are devices that convert energy from its original form in the renewable energy source into electricity. Renewable energy generators that are most likely to be found in hybrid energy systems include wind turbines and photovoltaic panels. Some hybrid energy systems use hydroelectric generators, biomass fueled generators, or fuel cells. It should be noted that many renewable energy generators include rotating electrical machines acting in the generating mode, which is also called a generator. Linear Induction Motor: Technology Alternatives For Suspension And Propulsion

A propulsion alternative is to transfer power to the vehicle and then have a magnetic structure on the vehicle that can create a moving field that, in turn, interacts with a conducting guide way to provide propulsion. This is called a short stator linear induction motor (or linear asynchronous motor), generally referred to as a Linear Induction Motor. It is possible to put the powered winding on the guide way and induce currents in a conductor on the vehicle, in which case it would be a long stator design, but this turns out to be an expensive and inefficient approach to maglev propulsion. Maglev Technology For High-Speed Transportation

High-speed maglev technology offers four main advantages: non-contact operation; low-mass vehicles (on a per seat basis, maglev vehicles weigh approximately one-third to three-quarters as much as high speed trains); high speed; and wayside system control and self-propelled vehicles (each car contains its own secondary part of a linear synchronous motors).

Non-contact operation means that vehicle traction does not depend on adhesion between contact surfaces, e.g., wheels and rails. (more…)

(An interesting exception to the above rule, which has been demonstrated in the laboratory, consists of a permanent magnet suspended below a block of high-temperature superconducting material held below its critical temperature. Characteristics Of Repulsive-Force-Based Suspension Systems: Electrodynamic Suspension

In contrast to electromagnetic suspension systems, electrodynamic suspension systems can provide stable suspension without a feedback system. Imagine a magnet held above a moving flat sheet of aluminum or copper. Following Ampere’s law of induction, an electric field is induced in the moving metal surface that causes eddy currents to flow in closed loops near its surface. The eddy currents in turn set up their own magnetic field, whose polarity, in accordance with Lenz’s law, opposes that of the magnet’s field. Consequently, the magnet is repelled from the moving metal surface, countering the force of gravity. If the magnet is pushed down toward the moving metal surface, the induced currents and the resultant repulsive force increase, restoring the equilibrium position automatically. Conversely, if the magnet is moved upward, the levitating force decreases. (more…)

Designers in China have launched the first wind turbine levitating in the world of permanent magnetic levitation (Maglev) in the Wind Power Asia Exhibition 2006.

Considered a key step in the evolution of global wind power technology and a notable advance in independent intellectual property rights in China. The generator was jointly developed by the Institute of Energy Research of Guangzhou in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangzhou Hengyuan Energy Science & Zhongke Technology Co., Ltd. (more…)

Early technology restrictions in nuclear power plants make huge plants with the capability to produce the greatest amount of power possible. But with more recent technology, nuclear plants size are smaller , making them less costly and easier to build.
