Hydraulic turbines have two main classifications: impulse and reaction. The impulse turbine generally uses the velocity of the water to move the runner and discharges to atmospheric pressure. The water stream hits each bucket on the runner. There is no suction on the down side of the turbine, and the water flows out the bottom of the turbine housing after hitting the runner. What is a LASER? Stimulated Emission and Population Inversion

The word “laser” is an acronym for “light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation.” Lasers of all kinds consist of several basic components: an active medium, an outside energy source, and an optical cavity with carefully designed mirrors on both ends. One of the mirrors is 100 percent reflective while the other is somewhat less reflective, so a beam can be emitted. The active medium is inside the optical cavity and is excited with an external energy source (typically electricity). For the cavity to emit laser radiation, the active medium has to achieve an unusual energy state called “population inversion.” (more…)

Geothermal drilling technology is adapted from the oil industry. Most of the geothermal wells are drilled with a rotary-type drilling rig. Because of the hard, abrasive, and high-temperature volcanic rocks of geothermal systems, the drilling bits require hard abrasive resistant teeth such as diamond or tungsten carbide. Hence, geothermal drilling is an expensive activity in geothermal development. Micro Pumps and Expanders
Many small-scale energy systems require effective miniaturized pumps and expanders. These devices are responsible for conveying a working fluid through various components to execute a cycle that may result in power production, heat pumping, or refrigeration. As an example, a pump is required for pressurizing the working fluid in Rankine power cycles. Miniaturized pumps could also cycle a heat transfer fluid through a cooling loop for heat rejection purposes. On the other hand, expanders are necessary for any cycle employing a working fluid to generate power. Under both former President Bush and new President Obama, the U.S. government has vowed to reduce reliance on imported oil. The nation is encouraging development of a transportation fleet that uses biofuels, fuel cell vehicles and hybrid electric technologies.

The United Nations Calls for Caution on Biofuels & Biodisel

We had expressed our disagreement with Biofuels and tell them also that the European Union also wants to distance themselves from them. Now the FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture) has been enacted against biofuels in its annual report. The main problem with biofuels is that the growing of them, occupy spaces before for food, and to create more spaces and woodlands are only by cutting down forests. (more…)
