Solar Dryer: Agriculture and Food Drying Systems

Solar dryers are special structures that enhance the drying power of the sun and protect the agricultural product from dust, dirt, and insects. Table below shows a block diagram of an active solar drying system, consisting of solar air collectors, a drying unit or chamber, and an air handling unit. An active solar drying system can accommodate the use of a backup heat source when there in not enough solar heat available. (more…)

Corporate Environmental Strategy: Honda, Toyota, Shell & BP

Corporate environmental strategy (CES) involves the tools, management programs, processes, and product development choices that allow a firm to pursue competitive advantage through environmental management strategies.

Management scholars such as Deming and Juran spent several decades after World War II making sure that quantity and quality processes entered the plans of corporate strategy, along with the classical concerns of price, technical quality, and distribution matters. In a similar but often more diffuse manner, the proponents of corporate environmental strategy began, in the l970s through the l990s, to alter the standard decision models of corporate strategy to include externalities that challenged the future growth of corporations, such as new environmental regulations or irregularities in energy markets and pricing. Nuclear Power And World Electricity Generation

Sir Arthur Eddington’s general address on subatomic energy at the 1930 World Power Conference in Berlin stirred the imagination of every scientist and engineer present. The challenge was clear: find a practical means of accessing, controlling, and using the enormous energy locked in the atom as predicted by Einstein’s remarkable mass–energy relation, E=mc2. On December 2, 1942, Enrico Fermi transformed Eddington’s visionary challenge into reality by producing the world’s first controlled, self-sustaining nuclear reactor, Chicago Pile 1. Six decades later, nuclear energy now produces 16% of the world’s electrical power. (more…)

The Role Of Nuclear Energy In Reducing Security Of Supply Risk

nuclear energy supply
Nuclear energy has some distinct advantages in strengthening the external dimension of energy supply security. These include:

Nuclear power plants produce electricity domestically. Their capital and labor inputs are also provided domestically. With more than 90% of its inputs in terms of value sourced domestically, it can be considered a largely domestic source of energy and electricity.

• Of course, a majority of OECD countries import part or all of their requirements of uranium plutonium. (more…)

Solar Tower: Wind and Solar Combination

The solar technology is not only in the flat solar collector or photovoltaic panel. I follow the process ID and proof of this is the prototype plant to produce solar electricity. (more…)

Solar House Competition

The competition solar houses ‘Solar Decathlon’ will arrive in Madrid in June 2010, after leaving the U.S. for the first time It is organized by the Ministry of Housing

The event, organized by the Ministry of Housing in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Department of Energy United States Government (more…)

Active Solar Hot Water Systems | Active Heating

Active Solar Hot Water Systems
Active solar hot water systems water are usable with air, liquid, vapor or liquid collector fluid or gas to liquid process. Hot water production with an air-heating collector’s distribution for heating is usually performed in the large space heating panel systems. The losses in the process of heat transfer are high. Air systems work not as well as units of the liquid to heat the water. Air systems are generally only capable of hot water 70 to 95F. (more…)

Natural Cooling and Passive Heating System for Energy Efficiency

Several passive heating systems, if provided with proper ventilation, can ensure to provide cooling. Passive heating and cooling for houses can be done in several ways, one of which is called geothermal energy. Passing the water through pipelines via ground can achieve and distribute the heating and cooling all over the house. (more…)

Geothermal Energy-An Attractive Alternative Energy

geothermal alternative energy
According to the German standard VDI 4640 geothermal energy is stored energy as heat beneath the Earth’s solid surface, encompasses the heat stored in rocks, soils and groundwater.

The main energy sources charge of the land are two: the first is the heat recovery of the Earth that can be assessed by the thermal gradient (variation of temperature versus depth), usually increase of 3.3 º C per 100 m depth. (more…)

Small Wind Turbines for Home - Market Potential

small wind turbines
In 2001, there were 14,000 small wind turbines for home/domestic use in the United States. The market potential for national and international market for small wind turbines is growing and have bright prospect. Small wind turbines as producing small energy are having the capacity up to 8% of the electricity needs of the United States in 2020. (more…)
